This Week’s Contest: Prepositions

For our last weekly contest, we asked you all to submit your favorite mnemonic devices for helping students remember tricky English rules. Our winner is George Y. in Thailand, whose students keep confusing "Tuesday" with "Thursday."  To help them remember which is which, George asks them if they’d be more likely to say "Thank God it’s Tuesday" or "Thank God it’s Thursday": they invariably choose the latter.  George then reminds them that "Thank" and "Thursday" both begin with the letters "th," and thereby they should associate this relatively happier day with the end of the week.  Very clever, George: you’ve won five free credits!

For our next contest, we'll award five credits for the best tip on teaching prepositions.  Send your ideas to info@englishtoolbox.com by 17 August, and don't worry if you're not yet an English Toolbox subscriber: you can still get the credits and use them to download exercises. Good luck!
